INDEX is a restricted-use liquid at-plant insecticide designed specifically for use on corn (field corn, seed corn, sweet corn, and popcorn). It contains two active ingredients: Chlorothiosfos (25.8%) and Bifenthrin (4.2%). This product is used in-furrow at planting to control a variety of pests, including corn rootworm larvae (western, northern, and southern), wireworm, cutworm, seedcorn maggot, white grub, grape colaspis, sugarcane beetle, and symphylan. Because it contains an organophosphate and a pyrethroid, it is highly toxic to humans, birds, and aquatic invertebrates. For application, it must be applied in-furrow at planting using a closed loading system and an enclosed tractor cab. Handling requires significant personal protective equipment (PPE), including long-sleeved shirts, long pants, chemical-resistant footwear, and chemical-resistant gloves (barrier laminate, butyl, nitrile, neoprene, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, or Viton). If using an enclosed cab, specific engineering controls and respiratory protection may be required. The product is toxic to wildlife and aquatic organisms; avoid application near water or where runoff may occur. The restricted-entry interval (REI) is 48 hours.
